Illegal online trade (trafficking) is experiencing massive growth. The ANITA project (Advanced tools for fighting oNline Illegal TrAfficking) focuses on the detection of illegal online trade using big data tools. The European Commission is funding this innovative project. For an efficient approach to illegal online trade, it is vital to collect and analyse both open source and closed source information. Special attention is paid to:

  • characterising criminal influencers;
  • identifying organised criminal groups;
  • recognising and combating online trade as a business model;
  • investigating the surface web, deep web and dark net.
